SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT FOR SOPHOMORES AND THEIR PARENTS:  Parent conferences have been scheduled for our 408 sophomores.  The purpose of the conference is to assist parents and students in developing an educational plan for the next two years.  Parents will be meeting with a teacher advisor and a counselor will be available when needed.  If your child's last name begins with the letters AL-McD (Alexander-McDonald) the conference dates are scheduled the week of March 3-7.  If your child's last name begins with the letters McG-Zu (McGee-Zunio) the conference dates are scheduled the week of March 24-28.  If you are absolutely unable to come at the time scheduled, please call as soon as possible so that an adjustment can be made.  If your scheduled time is satisfactory, please call to confirm at . 

After school tutoring/supervised study is held on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons in the school library from  2:55-3:55 pm.  A math teacher is available on Tuesdays.  See tutoring schedule for additional times.

Students are assigned to counselor by their grade level.  Freshmen, however, are assigned by their last names as listed below.  If you have questions or concerns about your student, please contact the appropriate counselor.  Listed below you will find information about attendance forms, GPAs and rank, transcripts, graduation requirements, etc.

Attendance Forms:

You will need to fill out the top three lines in PEN.  Place the completed form in the YELLOW folder.  It will be available at the end of 5th period in the red folder.  If you come in after 5th period, it will be ready for you the next day after 5th period. 

GPAs and Ranks:
GPAs are ready at the end of your junior year. Ranks are available at the end of the 2nd semester of your senior year.  You may request these at those times.  Place your request in the NEON GREEN folder.  Please give three school days to have that information ready for you.  It will be place in the GREEN folder when it is ready.

Transcripts:
Transcripts can be request at any time.  Please place these request in the NEON GREEN folder.  I advise that you send your transcript AFTER you have mailed your application to the college of your choice.  This gives the college ample time to enter your information.   Please allow three school days to mail or pick up your transcript (in your GREEN folder).

Request for all other information:
Please place your request in WRITING in the YELLOW folder.  Include your FULL name, date of birth, and what you are requesting.  It will be ready for you to pick up after 5th period the next school day in the RED folder.

NEW GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS

Beginning in school year 2001-2002, all SATP tests count for graduation.  A student’s graduation requirements are determined by the year he/she enters 9th grade.

Entering 9th graders in 1999-2000:

Entering 9th graders in 2000-2001:

       Entering 9th graders in 2001-2002:

Requirements to be classified as a:

Sophomore - 5 ˝ Credits PLUS successful completion of English 9. Students who began 9th grade in school year 2001-2002 (anticipated graduation is 2005) must pass the mathematics section of the FLE PLUS the Subject Area Test in U.S. History from 1877, English II (with a writing component), and Biology I.

Junior - 11 Credits, successful completion of English 10 Students who began 9th grade in school year 2000-2001 (anticipated graduation is 2004) must pass the mathematics section of the FLE PLUS the Subject Area Test in U.S. History from 1877 and English II (with a writing component).

Senior16 ˝ Credits, successful completion of English 11, and pass the Functional Literacy Exam. Students who began 9th grade in school year 1999-2000 (anticipated graduation is 2003) must pass the FLE PLUS the Subject Area Test in U.S. History from 1877. 

22 Credits are required to graduate.  The above are the minimum requirements for each classification.  Students may not be enrolled in a credit bearing interscholastic sport and PE at the same time.  Varsity athletes must earn 5 credits to retain eligibility.

*It is possible for students to earn 1 credit for Algebra I if successfully completed in the eighth grade, provided that  the courses are not repeated in High School.  Students who participate in activities governed by the Mississippi High School Activities Association must earn five (5) credits in the high school building to retain eligibility for the next school year.

        **The credit earned in a State/Local Government course in any other state by an out-of-state transfer student who enters after the sophomore year can stand in lieu of Mississippi Studies.

***One unit in Computer Discovery is accepted in lieu of the two 1/2 unit courses.
